Lublin – the City of Inspiration in Poland

Lublin is the largest city in eastern Poland and although much less visited than the capital Warsaw and the second-largest city Krakow, it definitely shouldn`t be skipped. It used to be one of the centers of the Jewish culture in Europe and today it is a big university city with a charming old town and sprawling nightlife.

Lublin is considered to be one of the best cities for business in Poland, according to Financial Times and attractive for foreign investments. It is famous for its green spaces and a high standard of living. The city is mainly academic center, with few well developed industrial sectors and history of hosting international fairs for around 10 years.

Lublin is located on the two banks of a river and it offers great recreation options – large lake, forest to wander, rural crafts and traditions.

2. Lublin is a city of culture, known also as “the Capital of Festivals”. There is a Carnival Arts-Masters, Museum Night, Storytellers Festivals all kind of music, movies, dance and theatre festivals – more than 30 regular festivals every year.

3. Lublin had been the capital of Poland twice, but only for a few months – after World War I and World War II.

4. It was known as the Jewish Oxford, due to being a major center of the Jewish community.

5. It is also called “the little Krakow”, due to the similarity the architecture and atmosphere, especially in the Old Town

6. The most popular food product, that originates from Lublin is called “Tsibulyazh” – cake with poppy seeds and onions.

7. Lublin has its own professional orchestra, the Lublin Philharmonic.

8. The symbol of the city is a goat. The story tells that once upon a time the orphaned kids of Lublin managed to survive the battles because a female goat fed them with her milk and since then the residents began to honor the goat as an emblem of their city.

9. “Lublin heynal” is a trumpet call, that sounds from the balcony of the New Town Hall terrace at 12:00 every day. It is also carried out before the meetings of the City Council, during visits of foreign delegations and important events for the city. This tradition is more than 400 years old.
