There are numerous reasons why you absolutely ought to go to Athens, and we won’t even dare to start listing them – you probably already know that this place must be on your places-to-visit list.
So, when in Athens, you will enjoy your time even more if you already know which coffee places serve the best coffee, which restaurants will provide you with a top-notch dining experience, and which bars will provide you with a memorable experience.
Kinono is our go-to place thanks to its super pleasant outdoor area, cool interior, and very friendly staff. Aside from nice refreshments, it offers great snacks and our recommendation would definitely be their signature Pastrami Sandwich. Another interesting detail at this place is their fast internet, so if you’re looking for a place to sit, enjoy a nice coffee while maintaining your productivity at work – Kinono is your place to be.
The Underdog checks all the boxes. It offers phenomenal coffee (literally any option you can imagine – they have it on their menu). On top of that, they have terrific breakfast options and our top picks would be Eggs Benedict and Greek Yoghurt.
The interior of this coffee place is very cool, spacious, with a twist in the shape of a shaded courtyard. This is, hands down, one of the best places to be in when it’s scorching hot outside. So, if you’re visiting Athens in summer, make sure to put this on your itinerary.
The Underdog is also great for working as they have a reliable internet connection and the design of the space will trigger your creative energy from the very moment you walk in.
The Little tree Books and Coffee is a peaceful, and extremely cozy bookshop/café standing in the shadow of the Acropolis Museum. It has a nice terrace overlooking a small square so it’s definitely a place with a view. Centrally located and easily reachable.
Oineas is a very famous greek taverna located in the historic center of Athens, where you can indulge in the most delicious greek specialties along with fine greek wine, tsipouro, and ouzo. Their braised lamb is absolutely delicious and our top recommendation.
Oienas is a very popular taverna so our recommendation would be to book your table ahead of time and ensure that you have a place arranged for you when you are ready to onboard the culinary voyage that will take you through the exceptional flavors and aromas of greek gastronomy and sounds of traditional Greek music.
A true, stylish greek brasserie that will knock your socks off with their high-quality dishes and exquisite choices of wine. Our recommendation here is to get a taste of the bone marrow on toasted bread as a great starter to kick off your gastro journey.
Opera Quarta is a nicely positioned restaurant that boasts a sleek and stylish interior. In short, this authentic Italian restaurant with a special focus on Roman dishes offers high-quality service and absolutely fantastic dishes. Our top recommendations here would be to get yourself a fantastic Vitello Tonnato and a classic Spaghetti Carbonara.
This authentic Athenian Brasserie is known for its astonishing view from the terrace overlooking the Acropolis. If you are on the lookout for a romantic night out, this is a choice that can’t go wrong. In case you do decide to take someone out for some fine dining and a nice view, make sure that you make a reservation ahead of time as it is required to have one, which can be a testimony for its high-quality service and the view you’ll never forget.
This one is an absolute gem and a must-visit place in case you are an oenophile. This cozy wine bar serves Greek-only wines and is run by a charming couple and their son, who are all very passionate and knowledgeable about wines. In addition to a lovely experience with wine tasting, you will have the opportunity to taste some Greek cheeses and charcuterie. Bear in mind that booking is essential here, too but we can’t stress what an amazing experience one can have in this cozy, wine bar.
If you see yourself as a sparkling wine and champagne lover, then this is the place to be! Warehouse CO2 offers not only terrific sparkling wine and champagne collection but phenomenal food, too! This place has a fantastic location with a small outdoor terrace on one of the squares and it will show you what a typical Athenian afternoon can feel like. Booking for this place is highly recommended as it can be quite busy but rest assured that Warehouse CO2 is just the answer for every hour of the day when you are in the Center of Athens and would like to sip on some good wine and simply enjoy your time there.
Dharma, and the entire street with all its trees and the pedestrian lane are here to remind you how cool al fresco dining and lounging can be. The place can be fairly busy, sometimes it’s packed but friendly and efficient staff are there to make you feel like you’re the only guest who matters. This place is absolutely fantastic for everyone who’d like to enjoy some coffee or their signature cocktails while watching people who are passing by.
