#AryxeTalks: Motion design trends in 2022
Fact: Motion design expands its impact on advertising campaigns in 2022. There is a variety of assets we are able to use, in order to generate higher engagement and a stronger recall rate.
Inevitably, the moving image increases the audience’s attention, which could potentially lead to better results. This is the reason why various businesses are implementing their creative approach through motion design. Still, sometimes, it can be tricky to define which is the best asset for your specific campaign goals.
Today we speak with Mihai Muntean, who is a Graphic Designer in Aryxe Group. As an avid animation and motion design-savvy, Mihai is going to share his views on the current and upcoming trends in the field.
“To follow animation trends means to have good taste.”
Hi Mihai! To kick things off and get the ball rolling on this hot topic, could you please clarify what are in your opinion the most distinguishable motion design trends in 2022?
Based on the trends of 2021, I guess this year we can expect to see more grainy retro looks and collages. Also, following the same trend, I can assume we will have more 3D & 2D graphic combos. Including here geometric shapes, isomorphic projections, and flat style animated characters. As for colors, I have a hunch that we will continue seeing somewhat limited color palettes since brands will most likely stick to their usual brand colors.
From time to time it can be challenging to choose the most suitable creative for a particular channel. What is your advice for those who find themselves in such a situation?
In theory, one would choose the best creative based on their target audience. It is important to know your audience profile, in order to deliver engaging creatives for them. This is the core element when it comes to everything that is content-related. Regarding the channel – again, if your audience is on Instagram then, there are multiple placements you can choose from, but the most important is to keep in mind what your target group likes.
Is there room for experiments?
There is always room for experiments. I really want to underline the “always” because that is where progress comes from. And yet there can also be times when you’re too close to the deadline to dare and experiment, so you opt for a fast and safe option instead.
How easy is it for a graphic designer to adapt to motion design?
I can’t speak in everyone’s name but I believe that it is fairly easy. As a graphic designer, I have literally one chance to make my point, be it on a slide, on a poster, or on any type of visual, really. With motion design, your options expand since you have multiple frames to do so. Learning the tools of the trade, like Premiere or After Effects, is relatively easy, whereas getting into a director’s mindset is what I find to be the trickiest piece of the puzzle.
Should we expect to see changes in this creative approach by the end of the year?
I don’t think so. Motion design and videos will certainly be used increasingly throughout all social media channels. I would like to recommend watching the Adobe YouTube channel to anyone who’s interested in this topic. They have great events too. For instance, I attended the 2021 Adobe Max conference and it was fantastic!
Video Copilot and Mt. Mograph on Youtube are also worth the time investment. And from time to time I check what the behancers are doing.
