Growth Badger asked 1,117 bloggers about their techniques and results to find out what are the most important factors for blogging success and what’s working best right now.
Content is king. It always is, always has been, and always will be. Blogs are all about original and interesting content. Therefore, „Quality of content” is rated #1 most important success factor among all bloggers. Higher-income bloggers focus attention on promoting their content much more than lower-income bloggers do.
Successful bloggers put emphasis on article headlines and introductions. Copyblogger estimated that 8 out of 10 people read the title. Therefore, it needs to pull people in. However, the title doesn’t keep them reading through the blog content. Every successful blog article needs a powerful introduction, consisting of the three important elements of a good blog post introduction:
- specific and brief Hook: it should grab readers attention and pull the reader into the blog entry
- Transition: connects the hook to the body of the post and clarifies the title
- Thesis: summarizes the topic and makes clear the purpose of the blog article
Longer articles are correlated with success. Posts in the 3,000 to 10, 000 word area get more shares. Successful bloggers, asked by Growth Badger, say their most popular blog posts are 2,424 long on average and performed exceptionally well.
Another important factor that determines blog success is SEO. Many WordPress plugins such as Yoast and Soliloquy are SEO friendly and make it easier to format blog articles for SEO.
Bloggers who earn over $50,000 give emphasis to headlines and introductions, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), email marketing, site appearance, blog name and URL and relationships with influencers or other bloggers than lower-income bloggers do. (see data in the above graph)
